XESTA Black Star S78M-S Avenge Shot 1-20g

The XESTA Black Star Avenge Shot S78M-S is a versatile Japanese light game spinning rod combining exceptional sensitivity with the power needed for more demanding lure fishing techniques. Featuring a 30-tonne solid carbon tip and a 1–20g casting range, it delivers excellent feedback when working soft plastics, jigheads and finesse rigs while retaining the backbone to handle stronger fish.

At 7'8" (2.34m), the S78M-S is particularly well suited to UK freshwater and saltwater fishing. Its sensitive solid tip makes it an excellent choice for targeting perch and zander with bottom-contact techniques, while the additional length and casting range provide versatility for chub fishing, light rock fishing and coastal lure applications.

The combination of a responsive tip, powerful mid-section and strong butt makes this rod equally capable of delicate presentations and more aggressive lure work.

Best Techniques

Perch Fishing: The sensitive solid carbon tip makes the S78M-S particularly effective for detecting subtle bites when fishing soft plastics close to the bottom. Ideal for jigheads, Ned rigs, Carolina rigs and other finesse presentations.

Zander Fishing: An excellent option for light to medium zander fishing with soft plastics. The combination of sensitivity and backbone helps anglers detect delicate takes while maintaining control during the strike and fight.

Suitable for fishing small to medium crankbaits, minnows and soft plastics in rivers. The 7'8" length offers useful casting reach and line control when working around current seams and structure.

Lift & Fall Fishing: Originally developed with techniques such as Japanese sea bream fishing in mind, the rod excels at lifting a lure from the bottom and allowing it to fall naturally while maintaining contact and detecting bites.

Light Rock Fishing: Well suited to jigging and soft plastic fishing around rocky coastlines, breakwaters and harbour walls, where its length and sensitivity provide an advantage.

Carolina Rig Fishing: The responsive solid tip and additional casting length make it suitable for fishing Carolina rigs at distance while maintaining feedback from the lure and bottom.
